Aims ofconference:  
1.   To provide an overview of new methodsthat can be used to enhance our knowledge about plants and fungi used in TCM.
2.   To identify what evidence is needed tofurther the development of TCM in the West.
3.   To identify key issues associated withthe supply and quality of plants and fungi used in TCM and how this could beimproved.
4.   What are the regulatory challenges thatTCM faces in the West and how could these be addressed.
5.   What are the commercial opportunitiesfor quality TCM products in China and the West: how can scientists help?
                                 
The conference will take place at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (4th & 5th July 2018) and at London South Bank University (6th July 2018)
The conference will bring together scientists, clinicians, regulators andbusiness people involved in different aspects of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM). The conference takes place in the year that celebrates the birth 500years ago of Li Shizhen.  He was the author of the famous Compendium ofMateria Medica and considered by many to be the greatest scientific naturalistof China. The aim of the conference is to to address the current challenges andopportunities that face the development of traditional Chinese medicine as aglobal resource in modern day medicine.
To reflect our commitments to good practices in TCM research anddevelopment, speakers will include representatives from industry that arebringing new medicines to market based on traditional Chinese medicine as wellas those studying different aspects of quality control. This will include theneed to embrace new techniques and monographs for monitoring the control ofgranules entering the trade. Other speakers will provide a summary of the increasedknowledge about the chemistry, pharmacology and safety of TCM plants andfungi.  The first two days of the conference (4th and 5thJuly) will at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew justoutside London.  Clinical Studies (herbal) and Acupuncture sessions willbe held at London South Bank University (6thJuly) and will includemethodology, evidence, effectiveness, policy and health care provision. Theconference will be restricted to about 200 people and there will be no parallelsessions.  The conference aims to bring together a multi-disciplinaryaudience to hear talks from an international group of speakers that willaddress key questions associated with TCM.
We hope you will be able to attend the conference and share your views asto what needs to be done to optimise the benefits that traditional Chinesemedicine could contribute to our wellbeing.  We will be accepting postersand hope that young scientists will take this opportunity to showcase theirfindings.

The conference runs from the 4-6th July 2018.  Wednesday 4th July and Thursday 5th July will be held at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The conference willthen move to London South Bank University for the sessions on Friday 6th July.   It is suggested that people book their accommodationnear Kew for the conference and then travel on the underground or train intoLondon (about 1 hour) for the sessions at the London South Bank University. We provide some information about hotels near Kew and those near theuniversity.

Please submit your poster abstract before the 31st May to the following email address: GPTCMRAmeeting@kew.org.  We will be back in contact with the corresponding author by mid-June so theycan prepare their poster and also the two powerpoint slides needed for their 2minute “flash” presentation on Wednesday 4th July. Flash posterpresentations: There will also be a 2 minute slot for you to present a verbaloverview of your poster at the conference.
Two poster awards (GBP500 each) and three travel awards (GBP500 each) willbe presented at the conference.
